Pornhub, xHamster or MyDirtyHobby – thanks to the internet, porn is nowadays more available than ever before. Even for the most niche kink you can find the right kind of clip. And in most cases, you can watch it for free. So why still go to the movie theatre and watch dirty films together? Why has the number of porn film festivals been constantly rising for years? And should people really see an anus in cinema screen size?
Together with our guests working in the fields performance, production and festival curation, we explore these questions, talk about the differences and similarities between the films shown at festivals and the clips on the internet, and investigate the phenomenon of sex positive film.
Bea Blue (she/her) is an independent director based in Berlin, born in Vienna. Since two years she is working in the adult film industry – scripting, producing and releasing independent movies. In her movies she root for a visible consent culture on screen and behind the scenes. She tries to challenge gender expectations and specific narratives. She has had the honor to screen her films at multiple film festivals and panel discussions. She hopes that one day people will talk about porn like we talk about any other film genre. “Let’s talk openly, be critical and let’s form this genre together and react to given times and needs.“ She is a queer feminist in love with porn. “Let this love be real, authentic and consent based.“
Bishop Black (they/them) is a Berlin based porn performer, sex worker, dancer, theater performer and director and all-round charmer. Bishop lives in Berlin where they made quite a splash in the queer porn scene.
They have worked with some of the industry’s most provocative figures including Venice Biennale artist Shu Lea Cheang, directors Bruce LaBruce, Erika Lust, Paulita Pappel, Poppy Sanchez, Jennifer Lyon Bell and Morgana Muses. In their stage and screen performances Bishop regularly addresses themes of sexual fluidity and race using mythology, occultism, queerness and dance.
Jasmin Hagendorfer (she/her) is a Vienna-based contemporary artist, filmmaker, author and curator. Her work in installation, sculpture, and performance explores socio-political discourses and gender identity, and has been exhibited internationally. Hagendorfer co-founded and is the festival director of the Porn Film Festival Vienna, balancing its programming and contributing to the intersection of feminist and queer theory, art, and pornography.
Yavuz Kurtulmus (he/him) is the founder of MiGaY, the first Austrian platform for LGBTIQA+ migrants, which advocates for the visibility and representation of queer minorities and POC. As the founder and director of the Porn Film Festival Vienna, Paris, Barcelona & Istanbul, he aims to highlight the pivotal role of sexuality, gender, and diversity and their impact on our society. Additionally, he conducts numerous lectures and workshops focusing on queer minorities.
