For the third time, the pact between the Vienna SLASH Film Festival and the DIAMETRALE has been forged around a Christmas (horror) film, making it an official tradition! What better way to celebrate this than with the 50th anniversary of BLACK CHRISTMAS (1974), one of THE Christmas slashers par excellence!

In a student dormitory, everything is already trimmed for Christmas, snow is on the doorstep and the angelic children’s choir goes from house to house. An excellent starting point for a wonderful holiday season for Jessy (Olivia Hussey) and her fellow students, were it not for a nameless psychopath hiding in the attic. Or an anonymous caller terrorizing the young women. The first corpse soon turns up and anyone familiar with the genre knows that it won’t stop at one…

A full four years before HALLOWEEN (1978), Bob Clark delivered a proto-slasher that is often overlooked, offering pretty much everything that was to make the genre so famous in a Christmas package: The subjective view of the killer, spectacular murders and an ending as black as the Christmas in the title! So bring on the punch and “Roll the movie!” - Christmas is tough. We’re tougher.
