DIAMETRALE – Film Festival for Experimental, Humouristic and Absurd Movies

What if aliens populated the world? Or humanity relocated to space? What if strangers disrupted the bourgeoisie or former soldiers became soldiers of the new right? What if megalomaniac construction tycoons failed due to indigenous resistance or the bleak reality of TV series was hijacked? What if amateur detectives exposed family murderers or interpersonal relationships were celebrated without shame?

What would happen then can be seen at the 9th edition of DIAMETRALE Film Festival. Through the wildest, most bizarre, and boldest moving image fantasies, we explore cinema as a place of possibility, in whose heart flickers the dream of a better future, and where humor triumphs over the adversities of the present.

Useless & Beautiful

DIAMETRALE is a platform for national and international film, music and art creators who are characterized by their experimental way of working and their interest in absurd ways of life.

Experiment and humor undermine common forms of expression, break or play with conventions and thus encourage reflection on what already exists. In addition, both work with the clash of expectations and the non-compliance with them. This creates funny, absurd and humorous moments that are also potentially resistant. DIAMETRALE presents original images and contrasting listening experiences that use precisely these mechanisms and thus lead to fresh reflection on art and society. This opens up new perspectives regarding aesthetic, interpersonal or socio-political topics. DIAMETRALE provides a necessary counterpoint, especially in our optimization-crazy consumer society.

In addition to the large festival, which has its regular date in spring, DIAMETRALE Nachtvisionen (“night visions”) take place annually in autumn. With this film series we want to bring the tradition of late-night movies back into art house cinemas. The films of DIAMETRALE Nachtvisionen fall into the realm of transgressive, cross-genre cinema of the 60s, 70s and 80s, which only unfold their full effect at night due to their dazzling aesthetics and bizarre set designs.

DIAMETRALE film festival is organized by DIAMETRALE – Verein zur Förderung experimenteller und komischer FilmKunst – and Kulturkollektiv Contrapunkt , in collaboration with Leokino Innsbruck .
