»You should be ashamed. – What for?«

Greece in the summer – what sadly turned into a literal inferno for many this year, used to be one of the dream destinations for freedom-loving people in the 70s. Even the student Patrizia, instead of heading to mundane Munich, spontaneously embarks on a journey through the Hellenic islands to get to know herself better. Along the way, she sails from one erotic scene to the next, until she finds her presumed happy ending on an actual sailing boat with the nature-loving Tom.

Against the backdrop of the picturesque Mediterranean landscape, Siggi Götz directs a light-hearted, bare-breasted sex comedy that was a true export hit back in the day. With almost five decades of distance, the film feels refreshingly easy-going and unabashed. This is mainly due to the unpretentious performance of Betty Vergès in the lead role, who simply wants to embrace her sexuality and take joy in her own body. Also owed to the 70s are the mostly intrusive, macho men, who see sexual freedom as a one-way street and can’t handle Patrizia’s nonchalance. Thus, Patrizia must likely continue her odyssey. Siggi Götz (*1944) is a German film director and screenwriter. He gained recognition for numerous Schlager music, Lederhosen, and softcore films; it seems he would have preferred to make films like those of Melville or Chabrol, well… In the 70s, he released one box office hit after another: Alpenglühn im Dirndlrock (1974), Drei Schwedinnen in Oberbayern (1977), Die schönen Wilden von Ibiza (1980). In the 80s, there was also a musical comedy with Thomas Gottschalk and Mike Krüger (PIRATENSENDER POWERPLAY). Siggi Götz learned from the best: in 1970, he was assistant director to Brynych on Die Weibchen, the cannibal film starring Uschi Glas (DIAMETRALE 2019).
