Meeting at the auditions for a TV singing-contest, young warblers Mimi and Billie fall head over heels in love. The former becomes a pop superstar, while the latter rebels as a punk icon. Their feelings for each other are crushed by the fact they inhabit worlds which are seemingly 100% incompatible. In his debut feature, »glittercore« genius Alexis Langlois stabs the shiny shimmering surfaces of pop-cultural bubbles, seduces and delights with outstanding original songs ranging from Eurovision pop to snotty punk and – despite or perhaps because of his hyper-artworld’s sequin-heavy atmosphere – ends up with a monster of a romantic movie that feels entirely real. Alexis Langlois (*1989) is a French film director and screenwriter, whose debut feature film Les Reines du drame premiered in the Critics’ Week program at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival. A program of Alexis short films has been already presented at DIAMETRALE 2023.
